With the recent advances in electronics, designers have found a way to construct multichannel systems for electrocardiography from just a few high-level off-the-shelf components. This approach provides several benefits including increased flexibility and lower production cost as well as reduced development cycle. Although this approach can be used without specialized training, there are several factors to consider in the selection of basic electronic components such as cards, mainframes, and software.
